Until next August, 26th, Casa dei Tre Oci in Venice will hold the first retrospective exhibition about Fulvio Roiter. The famous italian photographer died in 2016 and was famous for his mastery into black/white technique.
The gallery is located in Giudecca island and the exhibition is promoted by Fondazione di Venezia and City of Venice, where at least 200 photographs are present.
I interviewed Fulvio Roiter and I would like to share with you my memory.
It must start with a private encounter, happened ten years ago in 2008 at caffé Quadri in Venice.
It was the scheduled interview, for which we prepared various topics to sort out, from more philosophical to practicals ones, in order to not waste this unique occasion.
It wasn't the pyshical nearness to make the appointment private. It was the absence of other problems to give the characteristic of privateness, with all the attention towards us.
An encounter which reflected the inborn curiosity of the photographer in knowing anyone and knowing of any kind of situation. For us, an encounter useful to grasp the dynamic of deepening.
How is the behaviour of a great personality outside an interview? For Fulvio Roiter meant remaining normal. Normality for a famous photographer and multi awarderd one was intending to speak a little, leaving space for the silence.
Observing and understanding, judging as well: but without breaking the flow of information or simply ruining or twisting it.
He showed in parallel another dynamic aspect, which we can be called: to be contemporary. In fact it isn't rare to find some famous people, belonging in the culture field, totally absents from the real life. Living in a parallel dimension.
For example, in the case of Fulvio Roiter we have talked and compared in the context of the photographic method the famous driver Valentino Rossi: it made the interview more precious.
A suggestion to remain forever young: it is possible when it keeps alive the attention, without reasoning with schemes. And exceeding them, especially when they are own.
The encounter went extremely well, he wanted to know the upcoming topics just a little before, in order to arrange his own answers given that the broad-mindedness of the topics.
He had a remarkable respect towards anyone: seeking the truth brings by itself a person to be pragmatic and above all to listen to.
What is the difference between an artist like Fulvio Roiter and the image of an artist coming from the past, for example a person totally unrelated to the world?
Perhaps Fulvio Roiter is closed to the famous painter of the seventeenth century. They used to make art but in parallel in selling it, they continued on their own research, on both aesthetics and psychological, arriving at the maximun of the technics, where simply it becomes the ability of bring out own ideas in a simply form.
