The future Louis Vuitton Museum in Paris
Domenico Olivero (translated by Savina Carluccio)
For now you can only see it in the video presentation that the website has recently uploaded http://www.fondationlouisvuitton.fr.
It is the future Luis Vuitton museum designed by Frank Gehry.
The new museum looks like a ship among the trees, open to nature and to the surrounding space thus expressing the spirit of the Louis Vuitton Foundation for Creation which intends to be an ever changing initiative and open to society. This great cultural site has been designed to continually reinvent itself in order to adapt to future exhibitions and major events that will be hosted in its spaces.
The building was designed in harmony with the environment, including indoor and outdoor spaces. This building, like a beautiful boat with sails blown glass, is a great architectural idea. The project has developed a combination of strong and transparent curved glass windows, this "is a declaration of artistic intent that the Louis Vuitton Foundation wants to support and represent" - Bernard Arnault, chairman of LVMH, sums it up.
The Louis Vuitton Foundation for Creation will create, with the support of the City of Paris, an artistic centre, sensitive and visible, open to the world, adding to Paris a major architectural statement.
Located on the northern edge of the Bois de Boulogne, the Frank Gehry building rises magically from the natural and urban environments, playing with its structures, in natural harmony thanks to the use of materials like wood, the creation of a garden and the dialogue between the river, the sky and the city. The architect was inspired by the spirit of the botanical gardens of the late nineteenth century, providing a unique combination of spaces made to create each time new discoveries.
All we need to do now is waiting for completion of the construction works, planned for 2013.
