Yayoi Kusama, born in the city of Matsumoto in 1929, is one of the most recognized Japanese artists living today. She moved to New York in the 60's and she has been known for the exciting and outrageous performances in various places such as the stock exchange in Central Park and the Museum of Modern Art where she painted polka dot on the bodies of the participants or made them wear her creations. She is also known for her first hallucinatory and mind-boggling painting from the series Infinity Net: large canvases up to ten meters long, entirely covered by a dense texture of small wavy and thickly painted loops. Given the minuteness of detail in these paintings, Yayoi had to give up after a hospitalization for nervous breakdown and began to "broaden" the vision of her polka dots covering objects and environments such as the soft phallic sculptures Accumulation (1961-1962), Sex Obsession (1962 -1964) and Compulsion Furniture (1964), which subsequently inserted in natural scale sensory environments. Since 1965, she created the first ingenious infinity rooms like Floor Show (1965), where she created environments using reflective mirrors and a carpet covered with a myriad of white phalluses, or at least so were interpreted the bumps carefully covering any free surface.
