It's been a year since Anish Kapoor’s large installation which created long queues on the busy Avenue Winston Churchill. Now, from May 10 to June 21, is the time of Daniel Buren, famous French artist born in 1965 in the suburb of Boulogne-Billancourt.

The venue for the fifth edition of Monumenta, the annual contemporary art event created by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication is the Grand Palais in Paris.

After Anselm Kiefer inaugurating the initiative in 2007, Richard Serra’s minimalistic appearance 2008, Christian Boltanski in 2010 and the Anglo-Indian artist in 2011, now it’s the turn of Daniel Buren.

The 13500 m² of the magnificent Grand Palais building accommodate the large installation titled "Excentrique (s) - travail in situ" conceived by the French artist who will attempt to achieve Anish Kapoor’ success.

He is known for the 8.7 cm wide alternating white and colored vertical stripes, which are his signature since he saw a similar patter on a fabric in the St Pierre’s market in Paris. The simplicity of the pattern inspired Daniel Buren to adopt the same aesthetical simplification throughout his artistic career. He has refined this idea over time with many variations on the theme but without changing its format.
