For the Olympic season the National Gallery proposes, in collaboration with the Royal Opera House, a project that builds on Titian’s wonderful works: "Death of Actaeon", "Diana and Actaeon" and "Diana and Callisto". The last two paintings have been acquired only recently by the United Kingdom for a sum exceeding £ 100 million. These three paintings are the starting point of the exhibition "Metamorphosis: Titian 2012". From these works, related to the goddess Diana and the myth of metamorphosis, several British artists have been called to develop new works and collaborations ranging from music composition (Mark-Anthony Turnage), poetry (fourteen poets are participating, including Simon Armitage, Carol Ann Duffy, Seamus Heaney and Christopher Reid) visual art (Chris Ofili, Conrad Shawcross and Mark Wallinger) and dance (Wayne McGregor and Christopher Wheeldon proposing a number of ballets at the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden). The event will last until September 23.

This is a beautiful project that interweaves the art forms and themes and formulates a new and dynamic approach to exhibitions.

The exhibition "Metamorphosis: Titian 2012" takes place in the Sainsbury Wing. The Sunley Room hosts until August 19 another work by Titian which has undergone a restoration from the Hermitage and, after the brief exhibition, will return to Venice, its historic home.
