Monday June 4, 2012 - Sunday August 12, 2012
Held annually since the Royal Academy's foundation in 1768, the Summer Exhibition is a unique celebratory showcase for art of all styles and media, encompassing paintings, sculpture, photography, prints, architectural models, film, and artist's books.
The show affords an excellent opportunity for independent artists to display their work in an exhibition of international repute, held at a major venue; artists and gallerists have the prospect of making sales during the otherwise quiet summer months.
It is a unique event where the works of emerging and established artists, from students to celebrated names, are hung alongside one another. In recent years exhibitors have included the likes of Anselm Kiefer, Tracey Emin, Michael Landy, Tacita Dean, Gavin Turk, Callum Innes, Cornelia Parker and Anish Kapoor.
How to enter the Summer Exhibition 2012:
An artist may submit a maximum of two works, for a handling charge of £25.00 per entry (which is non-refundable and includes VAT).
The completed Entry Form, together with photographs of sculpture*, must be returned to the Academy by close of business on Tuesday 13 March. Therefore the deadline for artists in the UK and the rest of Europe to purchase a form is 3.30pm on Friday 9 March. For artists living outside Europe the deadline is Monday 27 February. This earlier date allows sufficient time for the form to be despatched to the artist and returned to the Academy by Tuesday 13 March.
