Friday March 30, 2012 - Sunday July 15, 2012
Pinakothek der Moderne has become in less than 10 years, one of the most significant and dynamic institution of Europe dedicated to Modern and Contemporary Art. As a sign of recognition, the exhibition gathers a hundred works loaned from the most prestigious international collections like the Museum from the Hermitage, St Petersbourg, the Tate Gallery, London, the Center Pompidou or the Louvre, Paris.
Around its Max Beckmann’s collection which is one of the most comprehensive collection in the world, the Pinakothek dedicates a unique exhibition to the representation of the female figure through the work of three major artists of the 20th century: Pablo Picasso, Max Beckmann and Willem de Kooning.
The curator of the exhibition Carla Schulz-Hoffmann shows that "Unlike common views and interpretations in art history, the works of Picasso, Beckmann and de Kooning represent free and emancipated women. Their works show the power of art: They still do provoke us today where pornographic images are part of our visual culture. This means that the works reach us on a deeper level and show the strength of art."
