Conduits/Gea Politi ha il piacere di annunciare la prima personale dell’artista rumeno Robert Fekete (1987, Satu Mare, Romania).

Fekete appartiene alla nuova generazione di artisti che fanno parte dell’importante circuito di Cluj Napoca, Romania.

Durante il soggiorno romano ha continuato a indagare sulla pittura classica e moderna, riuscendo a trovare la possibilità di sperimentare nuove prospettive compositive, combinando le varie informazioni raccolte.

Nei suoi ultimi lavori, l’artista ha concentrato la propria attenzione su ciò che definisce un "falso romanticismo", partendo dall’osservazione di un’opera di Caspar David Friedrich, Il viandante sul mare di nebbia (1818), in cui il protagonista viene collocato, come in altri suoi quadri, nel mezzo di paesaggi spettacolari. Si potrebbe ipotizzare che Friedrich ha scelto questo tipo di composizione per suggerire che attraverso il confronto diretto con la bellezza e la potenza incontenibile della natura, la vita o la mente del soggetto in qualche modo possa migliorare.

La pittura di Robert Fekete si basa dunque sulla relazione fra l’individuo e lo spazio in cui l’uomo risiede. I suoi personaggi mostrano caratteri complessi, sembrano non possedere a volte la natura (The Distance, 2011) o il desiderio (The Patience, 2011); appaiono alienati. Il personaggio vestito in abiti invernali in The Distance guarda un grande pezzo di carta da parati come se cercasse di entrare in una foto, sulla quale proietta un’ombra che segna il limite fisico di questa possibilità, ma al tempo stesso contribuisce a creare un sottile gioco fra realtà, fotografia e pittura.

Nel suo nuovo corpus di opere create appositamente per la mostra, l’artista pone l’accento sulla serie di Edvard Munch “Anxiety”, dove ritrova un dialogo costante fra i personaggi in primo piano e quelli sullo sfondo. L’artista si focalizza ancora una volta sulla distanza che si crea tra l’uomo e la natura, tra l’uomo e determinate situazioni, e tra il desiderio e la possibilità.

Robert Fekete vive e lavora fra Roma e Cluj Napoca. Fa attualmente parte del programma di residenze “Vasile Parvan” presso l’Accademia di Romania a Roma.

Ha esposto alla V Biennale di Praga, nella collettiva “Bad Industry”, presso Mihai Nicodim Gallery, Los Angeles, nel 2011; e nel 2010 al Rumänische KünstlerInnen, Bolzano.
A gennaio del 2014 sarà presente con una personale al MAC Birmingham in Inghilterra.




Conduits/Gea Politi is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition of the Romanian artist Robert Fekete (b.1987, Satu Mare, Romania).

Robert Fekete belongs to the new generation of young artists in the remarkable artistic hub of Cluj Napoca/Romania.

Due to time spent in Rome, he continues the investigation of classic and modern painting, the possibility of finding new insights in composition and the combination of this gathered information.

In his most recent work Robert Fekete is concerned with what he calls a “fake romanticism.” His interest developed from Caspar David Friedrich’s Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog (1818). Friedrich had a habit of placing his protagonists in the midst of breathtaking landscapes. One could posit that he did this to suggest that through being confronted by beauty and the overwhelming power of nature, the lives or mind of the subject would somehow be improved. In contrast, Fekete developed the practice of placing his subjects in front of fake landscape. They look into and across wall-papers. They are masters of their terrain but this land is not real. It is emulation.

Robert Fekete’s painting is about the relationship between man and the space in which he resides. His characters are not comfortable in the interior they are in, they seem to be missing something, whether it be the nature (The Distance, 2011) or desire (The Patience, 2011); they seem alienated. The character clad in winter clothes in The Distance gazes at a piece of large wallpaper as if trying to enter a picture. The looming shadow cast on the photograph marks the physical limit of this possibility, but at the same time contributes to a subtle game of reality, photography and painting.

In his new body of work created for the exhibition, Fekete’s starting point is the “Anxiety” series by Edvard Munch, where he finds a permanent dialogue between the characters in the foreground with the characters from the background. His focus is an investigation of the distance between people and nature; between people and certain situations; the distance between desire and possibility.

Robert Fekete (b.1987, Satu Mare) lives and works in Rome and Cluj Napoca. He is currently part of the ‘Vasile Parvan’ residency at the Accademia di Romania di Roma. Italy
