Saturday July 7, 2012 - Sunday August 5, 2012

Mark Wallinger and Lindsay SeersThis summer, we have two major new installations by leading UK artists Mark Wallinger and Lindsay Seers created specially for exhibition in Margate.

Sinema Amnesia, Mark Wallinger

On the Promenade by Turner Contemporary

10am–6pm

Sinema Amnesia shows the film, The Waste Land, an ever-changing, endless picture of unfolding time. With a lens recording the view out to sea, the structure is like a camera obscura, except that the image you see playing inside is what was recorded exactly 24 hours before. Inspired by T.S. Eliot’s famous poem The Waste Land, partially written on Margate Sands, Wallinger creates a time machine where we simultaneously experience the same view, from two different times.

Entangled², Lindsay Seers

Screenings on the hour 11am–4pm
Secret location within Turner Contemporary. Meet at Information Desk
Seers is fascinated by her great-great uncle’s condition Heterochromia, where different coloured eyes are thought to result from an identical twin being subsumed by the other in the womb. Starting here she delves into ideas around identity and doubles. Filming in the Theatre Royal and The Winter Gardens, she explores Margate’s theatrical past, and the world of English music hall male impersonators.

Commissioned and curated by Jacqui Davies, University for the Creative Arts (School of Fine Arts) and Turner Contemporary.

Please note Turner Contemporary is closed Mondays.
